Maybe a slight exaggeration…

We made a brief announcement this past Sunday that I wanted to get out to everyone who is a part of the Journey North family. As you are well aware if you have used our parking lot, there are almost more potholes than parking lot! We have a team that has been working with the other business owners who use the parking lot and we hope to be able to repave the lot shortly.

Here’s the plan as we announced it: We are not big into the whole “designated giving” thing here at Journey North Church. We just give and it gets divided up and used as God guides and we follow Him. Although there may be exceptions to that, this time we are asking that if God lays it on your heart to give extra so the parking lot isn’t such a big hit on the general fund financially… then just give. No need to mark it for the parking lot. It all goes into the pot (not the pothole) and the cost of the parking lot will come out of that general fund. I have no doubt that this will be a win for our faith, for our impact in the community, for our vehicles’ suspensions, and for the snow plows this winter! Thanks in advance!

Impromptu Motorcycle Ride

September 18th, 2016 by WebPastor

Young Harley Kid

Rob Hoy suggested that we take an impromptu motorcycle ride to Duluth Sunday (Sept 18) and eat a burger at the Radison (the one that spins around). I’ve never eaten there and it looks to be a beautiful day for a ride. Anyone able to join we’ll leave sometime after the 2nd service… noonish…

You keep using that… verse

September 5th, 2016 by WebPastor

You keep using that verse meme 450

We’ve been having a little fun while learning how some of the verses we hear used are not always used correctly. I think I misquoted some of the stats I had this past Sunday. In the interest of not misusing things, here is what I had found:

Stats on Professional Sports…

According to Sports Illustrated, 78 percent of National Football League (NFL) and an estimated 60 percent of National Basketball Association (NBA) players go bankrupt or are under financial stress in just two years and five years, respectively, after their retirement.

Stats on Lottery winners…

The National Endowment for Financial Education cites research estimating that 70 percent of people who suddenly receive a large sum of money will lose it within a few years.

Now you know!

For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil. Some people, eager for money, have wandered from the faith and pierced themselves with many griefs. 1 Timothy 6:10 (NIV)

Remember, it’s not the money that’s bad… it’s the love of money.

Money is not the answer to our deepest needs. Jesus is!

Trust Jesus with what He’s blessed you with
Trust Jesus in your season of want
Trust Jesus with your life and eternity

And the antidote to the love of money is not more money…
it’s generosity

No running for cover this time…

20160807_Outdoor

Unlike last year… we didn’t close our outdoor service with a mad dash to cars in the rain! It was a gorgeous day to enjoy some fellowship, worship, teaching, fun, and dream a little about what God is going do with that beautiful property He has provided us with. I love being out there with my forever family and getting a glimpse of what God has in store. There’s a wave coming! Let’s ride it together!

Outdoor Service at JNC Property THIS Sunday, Aug 7 @ 10:30

August 1st, 2016 by WebPastor

(Click the picture above to see a bigger view of it)

Weather permitting, we’re going outside again this Sunday, August 7. This time it’s at our church property on the North end of town. VBS will take place on the church property from Sunday through Wednesday (5:30-8:30 pm) and since we’ll be all set up, we’ll piggyback on that and have an outdoor service.

So bring a lawn chair or blanket and join us. We’ll worship together, enjoy the outdoors and our property together, and hear a little of what’s on the roadmap for Journey North Church.

That’s ONE service, all together, at 10:30 am. And in case of bad weather, we’ll go back to 2 services (9 & 10:30) at 840 Main Street So.

Instructions for THIS Sunday’s Baptism Service

July 25th, 2016 by WebPastor

text

Remember this is all weather permitting… in case of bad weather, we’re back to 2 services… 9 & 10:30 at 840 Main Street South.

If you’re getting baptized this Sunday, here’s a little something by way of instructions… Pretty simple… the changing rooms will be open. If you wear something modest for the baptism and have a towel and dry clothes to change back into, you’ll be good to go!.

After the baptisms on Sunday (if the weather cooperates) the celebration will continue with a potluck lunch. So please bring a dish to share if you can. And for the comics reading this… obviously not just a dish… the dish should have some sort of food or dessert on it 🙂

So bring a dish to share and your lawn chair. We’ll supply the paper products and something to drink. If you forget, come anyway. There is always plenty of food and Journey North Church has some fantastic cooks!!

I’m back and can’t wait to see you all there!!

Journey North Church Baptism

June 10th, 2016 by WebPastor

text

At Journey North Church we believe that Christ followers should be baptized the same way Jesus was. We are commanded in the Great Commission to go and make disciples… baptizing them. We take that seriously. We don’t believe that baptism saves you. People are saved by grace through faith, not of any works (Ephesians 2:8-9), based solely on what Jesus did by coming, living, dying on the cross for our sins, and rising again for us. But baptism demonstrates that relationship in an outward way. It also demonstrates our identification with and relationship to our church family.

Weather permitting, Journey North Church is having a baptism service at the Pine City Beach THIS Sunday, July 31, at 10:30. If you have made a commitment to accept Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior and want to follow Him in believer’s baptism, please let us know… put it on a communication card, call us, email us, message us on Facebook, DM us on Twitter… you can even come talk to us 🙂 Just let us know so we can answer questions you may have and give you some instructions for that day. On that day, after a time of worship through music and sharing from God’s Word, we will introduce those desiring to be baptized. We will, just like Jesus did, go down into the water, be baptized by immersion as a picture of Jesus’ death, burial, and resurrection, and come up out of the water and celebrate together. It’s always a very special celebration. Join us!

The baptism will be followed by a potluck lunch. Bring a dish to share if you can! In the event the weather is bad and we have to cancel, we will have our regular 2 services at 9 and 10:30 at 840 Main Street South.

Here’s a map to the Pine City Beach if you need it:

Memorial Day

May 30th, 2016 by WebPastor

memorial_day_4501

Today is the day we in the United States remember our fallen heroes. We remember those who have paid the ultimate sacrifice defending our freedom. As you celebrate today and spend time with family and friends (or whatever you may be doing today), please don’t forget to stop and take the time to remember and honor those who have given their lives in defense of our freedom.

“There is no greater love than to lay down one’s life for one’s friends.”
John 15:13 (NLT)
