So last Sunday we took a break from our Connecting with God series and as the last presidential debate finished and we headed into the home stretch before Election Day (November 8th) we heard from Andy Stanley on Avoiding Election Infection. A number of people asked whether that video was available online. It is and I’m posting it here so you can share it or watch it with someone or whatever. Some good truth here!
This Sunday (Oct 30) we’re back to our series… you don’t want to miss it!
The stripers came today… before I continue let me say we’ve had the discussion that when texting back and forth about the striping in the parking lot, we have all been extremely careful with spelling. Nobody wanted to be on record texting the pastor about stripping in the parking lot! Anyhow… although we often encourage coloring outside the lines, we do not encourage parking outside the lines 🙂
We gained quite a few parking spaces by using the suggestions of the professional striper (I was careful with the spelling there… see how that could be greatly misinterpreted). Thanks again to all who are being so generous with what God has given them… time, talents, and treasure! You’re storing up treasure in Heaven and you will reap what you sow. You have Jesus’ word on that!
The milling of the parking lot was scheduled for Monday. The pavers took advantage of the beautiful day and started paving right after the milling! Striping will be coming soon! Thanks to all who are demonstrating a generous heart!

A group from Overdrive (the 8-12 grade student ministry of JNC) headed out to Camp Shamineau for Fall Fling. Pray for them as they travel and spend the weekend together. Pray for safety… that God would move mightily… and that students would respond to God with a “Yes”!! They’ll be traveling home on Sunday and arrive sometime mid or late afternoon.
We’re starting a new series tomorrow that you’re not going to want to miss. It’s called Connecting with God… most people are not connected like they would like to be… to God or others… this first week introduces it and sets it up so don’t miss out! I’m looking forward to seeing all of you there!
We made a brief announcement this past Sunday that I wanted to get out to everyone who is a part of the Journey North family. As you are well aware if you have used our parking lot, there are almost more potholes than parking lot! We have a team that has been working with the other business owners who use the parking lot and we hope to be able to repave the lot shortly.
Here’s the plan as we announced it: We are not big into the whole “designated giving” thing here at Journey North Church. We just give and it gets divided up and used as God guides and we follow Him. Although there may be exceptions to that, this time we are asking that if God lays it on your heart to give extra so the parking lot isn’t such a big hit on the general fund financially… then just give. No need to mark it for the parking lot. It all goes into the pot (not the pothole) and the cost of the parking lot will come out of that general fund. I have no doubt that this will be a win for our faith, for our impact in the community, for our vehicles’ suspensions, and for the snow plows this winter! Thanks in advance!
Rob Hoy suggested that we take an impromptu motorcycle ride to Duluth Sunday (Sept 18) and eat a burger at the Radison (the one that spins around). I’ve never eaten there and it looks to be a beautiful day for a ride. Anyone able to join we’ll leave sometime after the 2nd service… noonish…
