No, I haven’t confused holidays. No, I haven’t misspelled merry. We are starting a new series leading up to Easter called “A Very Mary Easter” and I would love to tell you all about it… but if I told you everything, then you might feel you don’t need to be there! So let me say this much:
if the busyness of life gets to you sometimes…
if you are experiencing unexpected life altering events…
if you are struggling on life’s journey with hurts, habits, or hang ups…
if you sometimes feel out of control or trapped in life…
then this series is for you! Don’t miss it & don’t forget to invite someone who doesn’t have a church home. Come as you are… no perfect people allowed!
As the clock winds down and we continue to put our finishing touches on the ladies retreat, we are in search of a few items. If you have any wigs, high heel pumps, fun girl band dress up items, blow up guitars… you get the idea, we would love to use them for our American Idol theme. Please get them to me as soon as possible. The weekend is coming quickly. I can’t wait!
This Wednesday, Pine City’s Varsity Girls Basketball Team will play their first Section Tournament game at 7:00 at the High School. This is both a scheduling conflict and an opportunity. It’s a scheduling conflict in the sense that the rooms we use at the high school will be occupied, but it gives us a great opportunity to support the girl’s basketball team and cheer them on. So here’s the scoop, we are planning on attending the game and sitting together, just as the students in “To Save a Life” ate together in the quad for lunch. This will be a fun time for us as a group. The game starts at seven. I’ll be by the front door starting at 6:30 and will pay for those students who attend JNC youth group. Looking forward to spending the evening with you. See you there.
They say home is where the heart is… so I guess that anywhere Journey North Church is would be home… because there is a lot of heart there! Actually we know this world is temporary and not our home, but it sure feels good to gather with “the Family” no matter where it is! This past Sunday, we met at the Elementary Auditorium for a couple reasons. One reason was that Pine Tech was having their annual Gun Show and they use the entire campus for that. There was also another reason that I will get back to you on. (I won’t keep you hanging too long, don’t worry)
Because of their connection with the school and their servant hearts, Jeff and Deb graciously volunteered to be there to unlock and lock up, help with set up and take down, and generally just be servants. Thank you so much. Many people selflessly served in so many ways to make it all come together. There was a great crowd, great time of worship in song, and even a special treat: Wendy and some volunteers gave out gold medals to a bunch of KidVenture students who memorized Bible verses as part of their Olympics theme that concluded Sunday. Some of the students are pictured in the slide show above. Great job!
We wrapped up our series on finding God’s will and learned about getting our “buts” out of the way (you had to be there!). Overall I believe it was a memorable Sunday. Thank you all for being a part of this amazing journey. See you at Pine Tech this Sunday at 9 or 10:30.
Journey North Church will be meeting at the Pine City Elementary School Auditorium tomorrow (Sunday, Feb 28) for one service at 10:45am. As you know, Pine Tech is hosting the annual Gun Show and the building is not available for us that day. Remind everyone and pass the word along to join us at the Auditorium for this experiment. Should be fun! Great music. Great fellowship. There will even be an awards ceremony of olympic proportions. And we’re wrapping up our series on finding God’s will. Invite a friend and we’ll see you there!
What a way to enjoy winter! The 456 students took to the ice for a fun-filled game of broom ball a couple weeks ago. We slipped and tried to keep upright on the ice in a closely contested match, then enjoyed some cookies and hot chocolate in the warming house. The 456 students also enjoyed a beautiful winter afternoon at Eko Backen on Sunday February 21st. We shared a lot of laughs, and thankfully, no injuries! What a great group of students we have! We will continue to meet on Wednesdays at the elementary school from 6:30-8:00.
The Gun Show at Pine Tech takes up the entire school this weekend… which means that we meet at an alternate location Sunday. This year we’re going to meet at the Elementary Auditorium for our worship gathering (pictured above, circa 1944). KidVenture has some special activities planned and this location works great for them. It will be fun to have one service together. We’re getting started at 10:45. We’ll see you there! Pass it on so everyone knows.
Tim at Grand Cinema has gotten the To Save A Life movie! We really encourage ALL of you to go see it. Some of the content may not be completely suitable for younger children. You can go to the To Save A Life web site to get more details. Bring a group and have a discussion afterwards. I really believe we need to support both the movie and Tim at Grand Cinema for doing this. Show your support! You won’t regret seeing the movie… it’s great! I’ve put the copy from Grand Cinema’s web site below, or you can visit them online by clicking here.
Lorraine Schultz went home to be with Jesus this week… too soon from our perspective. She was known as a hard working, caring servant… always pitching in and helping whenever she was around. She will be greatly missed. There will be a visitation Friday night from 6-8 pm at Swanson’s Funeral Chapel. The funeral will be Saturday at 2:00 at the Lighthouse with an hour reviewal beforehand. Please keep the family in your prayers.

I so missed our youth group this past week as I was away at a conference. Although the conference was truly amazing and God did a great work, I certainly missed my friends. So it was wonderful to spend the day with many of them today, as we hit the slopes at Eko Backen. Beautiful weather and fantastic friends make a truly great day. Check out the slide show page to see snapshots from our time together.
